The improvement involves using a liq. sorbent (8.5-30 mole %) based on MI, or amine-AlCl3 adduct chosen from (i) R3NLAlCl3 or (ii) adduct or formula (II), or their mixts. to reduce alkylation and other side reactions in the ligand sepn. process. In (I) MI is GP. I-B metal. MII is GP. III-A metal. X is halogen, n is the sum of the valences of Mi and MII.
