A flux for keeping warmth in molten metal requires powdertype exothermic warming materials a heat insulator, and a boardtype heat insulation sleeve. This material is combined to prevent the temperature of molten steel in a ladle or tundish from dropping and to maintain the temperature of upper ingot parts after coarse ingot has been poured. A quality estimation for using the heat-holding materials must precede their actual operation. This invention offers a quality estimation method and an apparatus, and uses direct measurement conditions that closely approximate actual operation conditions.
