Bitumen compsn. to be used as impregnant contains linseed oil varnish, stearin and paraffin in amt. to bring the viscosity of the bitumen, measured at 110 degrees C with a tar viscometer, to is not 1/5 of the initial value; the compsn. may also contain stabilisers, polyisobutene, spindle oil, and silicone water-repellants. Used in impregnation of soft, open-pore polyurethane foam. The impregnated foam is used as a sealing strip, e.g. in the building industry. The compsn. is free from solvents. The properties can be varied as required. The components are cheap and easily available, and do not affect the polyurethane carrier.
