DATA PROCESSING APPARATUS WITH A RECONFIGURABLE KEY BASED MAIN STORAGE PROTECT MECHANISM

To provide an economic and valid key-based storage protect mechanism in data processing apparatus having more than one storage controller (SC-0, SC-1) capable of accessing the whole of common storage, the protection keys are stored in arrays (KISM) distributed throughout the controllers. A bus 10 interconnects the arrays so that they are interrogated in parallel. Interrogation may be on an associative basis established from the system console (SYCON). Reconfiguration, interleaving and partial shutdown are described.
