In bottom stapling machines for connecting the bottom flaps (2, 3) of folding boxes (1), in particular made of corrugated cardboard, by means of staples (11), there are those in which the stapling head (10) is mounted with a single bearing on a bow (8) so that the staples (11) are provided at right angles to the bow (8). Since the bow (8) is mounted on a stand (7) of the bottom stapling machine, a machine of this type only has a limited working depth and thus only allows the closure of folding boxes of limited length in the region of the bottom flaps (2, 3). In order to remove this limitation and to avoid the known rotation of relatively long folding boxes, an adjustable and fixable straightedge (14) is proposed as the guiding stop for the erected folding box relative to the insertion point of the staples (11), the straightedge being arranged obliquely relative to the direction of the staples (11) and thus also obliquely to the bow (8). It is thus possible to push the folding box (1) evenly diagonally and obliquely past the bottom stapling machine, thus removing the limited processability of relatively long folding boxes (1).
