An annular, torsionally elastic body of revolution, such as in particular an elastic shaft coupling, as illustrated, having carrier elements arranged at the corners for the alternating fastening of the shafts to be connected and elastomer columns arranged in between, is reinforced in the elastomer columns by fibres, preferably of short to medium length, aligned predominantly in the circumferential direction. In production, first of all elastomer cords with correspondingly aligned fibres are formed from the fibre-reinforced rubber mixtures and prevulcanised to dimensional stability but to a still plastic state. These prevulcanised elastomer cords are wound in a plurality of layers around the positionally correctly arranged carrier elements to form the torsionally elastic body of revolution, so that a uniform elastomer body of high tensile strength is formed by the subsequent vulcanisation to the desired end stage, if appropriate with the additional use of adhesion promoters, by vulcanising together the elastomer cords.
