The invention relates to a method and a device for recovering stack waste-gas heat from heating firing systems of buildings. The flue gases which have previously been let off directly to the outside often have temperatures of more than 250 DEG C. It is the object of the invention to achieve recovery of the heat of the flue gases. The object is achieved by a method in which the air to be heated is supplied at the upper end of the flue-gas stack and led downwards from there in direct contact with the outer surface of the flue-gas stack along the entire length thereof, and then fed as heated room air into the room to be heated. The hot air stack serving to carry out the method has a flue-gas stack (3) which consists of a tube which is surrounded by a casing (5), a circular cylindrical interspace being formed in the process, and there is arranged next to the hot-air stack shaft (4) a supply-air stack shaft (6) which extends as far as the tip of the chimney (1) and is connected to the hot-air stack shaft (4).
