The process for the production of edible synthetic flat films and tubular films from casein and/or soya protein proceeds from an aqueous solution, which is expressed through a shaping nozzle into aqueous solutions of inorganic substances, and in the course of this is spun to give shaped gels. The shaped gels are subsequently treated with an aqueous impregnation bath, which simultaneously contains a softening compound and formaldehyde, glyoxal and/or glutaraldehyde as crosslinker, dewatered and chemically cross-linked during the dewatering process.
