A flask system having three types of flask - an inner flask, a transport flask and a storage flask - is used for the purpose of transferring or transporting fuel elements from a nuclear power station to a storage site. In the pool of the nuclear power station, either the inner flask is firstly put with its cover end open into the transport flask and the fuel elements are then put into the inner flask, or the inner flask which has been charged with the fuel elements remotely from the transport flask is brought into the transport flask. Subsequently, the two flasks are sealed at the cover end and transported as a unit to the storage site. There, the storage flask open at the cover end is prepared, the base of the transport flask is opened, and the latter is lifted together with the inner flask above the storage flask, or set down above the storage flask. The inner flask is then lowered into the storage flask, the transport flask is moved away, and the cover of the storage flask is sealed and the latter is then taken to its site of installation. The base and cover of the inner flask are constructed such that they shield the radioactive radiation so that the transfer of the inner flask from the transport flask into the storage flask is performed without risk.
