The invention relates to compound profiles for window or door frames, consisting of two metal profile rails which are joined together by means of an insulating element. The profile rails are first of all joined together by means of at least one connecting web which is removed in order to produce the finished compound profile. To make it possible for the connecting web to be removed more simply, it is proposed that an air gap be provided between the insulating element and the connecting web and/or that the connecting web be provided, on its side remote from the insulating element, with a gripping rail 12 which is made in one piece with the connecting web and is angled in profile. Both the air gap and the gripping rail permit engagement by a separating tool, so that a substantially automated separation of the connecting strip from the profile rails is possible. Within the overall scope of the invention, a plurality of processes for separating the connecting strip, for introducing filler into the hollow space enclosed by the profile rails, and devices for implementing the process and separating tools are proposed.
