An AC machine, preferably an induction motor or shaded-pole motor or the like, is fitted with at least one excitation winding and with a circuit arrangement for inductively extracting a secondary or auxiliary power. A changeover switch is provided in the circuit of the excitation winding for switching the motor on and off and/or for switching the inductive extraction on and off, the free contact of which changeover switch during motor operation is connected to a biassing resistor in the circuit of the excitation winding or to a primary winding for the inductive extraction. The secondary or auxiliary power can be extracted from the useful excitation field or even from the scatter field of the machine. In the latter case, the secondary winding can be arranged on the narrow sides of the laminates of the stator or of the laminate stack.
