Method and apparatus for the low-distortion series hardening of workpieces and application of the method

Workpieces of hardenable metallic materials, particularly iron materials such as steels, are clamped for low-distortion series hardening in a hardening press, quenched in clamped condition by means of a cooled mould and/or by means of a stream of gaseous coolant and subjected, without intermediate treatment, to a controlled heat treatment. The controlled heat treatment can be carried out by annealing the workpiece after the quenching and subjecting it to an isothermal heat treatment or a controlled, particularly a slow, cooling.
