A blood returning apparatus comprises a suction device or a needle for the aspiration of blood from the wound of a patient. The suction device or the needle is connected via a tube to a first chamber (1) which is under reduced pressure and in which the blood is collected and passed via a screen or filter (7, 8) at the bottom to a further similar chamber from which the blood passes in turn into a further chamber (21).
