Local treatment by local melting of the regions (4a, 4b) of the flanks (2a, 2b) of a groove (2) to be cut, after the treatment has been completed, by means of an electron beam (3) in a jumping beam method. The regions of melting are produced in fields (5) which are equally long and are situated in staggered arrangement opposite each other in the longitudinal direction of the groove. The melting takes place in strips in which is produced molten bath (6) and which extend over the length of the treated field, proceeding from the planes including the flanks and parallel thereto in the direction to the centre of the groove with gradually decreasing depth of melting.
