Pulse generator supplying capacitance load - has regenerative circuit for recharging generator output stage capacitor which is charged also from DC source
The generator can apply repetitive controlled pulse voltage waves to a highly capacitative load (21). The generator output capacitor (C1) is charged from a d.c. source and switched (So) to the load via a current limiting inductor (L). The effect of the inductor is also to give a controlled voltage rise time. The switch (So) is opened and, after a controlled interval, an antiparallel switch (S1) is closed. The charge on the load is then partially transferred back to the output capacitor (C1) with a controlled voltage decay time. The load is finally cleared of its residual charge by a dumping circuit and switch (S2) in parallel with the generator. The cycle can then be repeated. The switches are solid state devices under the control of a sequencing unit (9). The circuit has low losses.
