The protector has walls of flexible material and has a form such that it can receive all types of fishing reels, whether connected to a fishing rod or not. The protector comprises a closed end to which side walls (4) are connected. Opposite the end, the walls may be opened to enable the protector to be fitted to the reel (5) to enclose it. A hole (8) allows the foot (6) of the reel to protrude for fitting to rod (7). The protector, when closed, prevents access of daylight to the line on the reel and also keeps the reel clean.
