The bracket, formed as a hollow box, is fixed at each end of the back of a cooker. Each bracket holds a pin which projects beyond it with a hexagonal head (9a). There is a coiled spring round the pin within the bracket. The projecting hexagon slots into a corresponding recess (35) in the end of a square bar (28) which runs across the back of the cooker. The hob cover (4) is fixed (29) to the top of the bar so that it pivots as the bar rotates about the pins. The front edge of the cover rests on a bar (31) fixed to the front of the cooker.
