Lifting concrete drum contg. radioactive wastes - by skirt fitting over drum, with lifting trunnions and slots engaging in spindles in blind holes in drum

A fixation device for lifting a cylindrical concrete drum contg. radioactive wastes and having blind radial holes distributed angularly over its periphery is composed of spindles of length slightly greater than the depth of the blind holes, each engaged in one of the holes, and a circular skirt. The circular skirt fits over the concrete drum and incorporates slots for fixing it on the spindles. It includes also two radial trunnions at 180 deg. one from the other, shoulder at their end, allowing lifting of the concrete drum by a bar provided with two arms and ended by a hook. The invention avoids the inconveniences of the existing device comprising three chains terminated by pins put into the holes manually with risk of exposure to radioactivity. The device according to the invention can be applied to all models of concrete drums with radial holes on their periphery. It allows lifting without any manual intervention. All the operations are effected remotely so that the operator is not exposed to harmful radioactivity.
