Growth development regulators comprise cis or trans, racemic or optically active, 2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-R1-2-R2-vinyl) cyclopropane-1-COOR derivs, (I), or their mixt. (where R1 is H, halo or 1-8C alkyl; R2 is H, halo, 1-8C alkyl or 2-8C alkoxycarbonyl or R1 and R2 together form a 3-6C cycloalkylidene group; R is 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl, 1,3,4,5,6,7-hexahydro-1,3-dioxo (2H)-isoindol-2-yl-methyl, 2-methyl-4-oxo-3-(2-propenyl)-2- cyclopentene-1-yl, 5-(2-propynyl)-furfuryl, 2-methyl-5-(2-propynyl)-3-furylmethyl, 3-phenoxy-benzyl or alpha-cyano-3-phenoxy-benzyl. Used as growth regulators esp. antigibberellins which shorten the distance between side shoots, thicken the stem walls and act on the chlorophyll content and flowering of plants. (I) act on the date of flowering and quantity of flowers produced e.g. they may be used to give early flowering with increase in crop yields esp. for cereal crops, such as wheat, barley, maize, colza and soja. They are also used to treat cotton, sunflowers, vines, tobacco and cocoa, fruit trees, vegetables, such as tomatoes and cucumbers and ornamental plants, such as poinsettias and hibiscus. Cpds. (I) are known insecticides e.g. see FR 1503260.
