Solar energy storage reservoir - transfers energy from open-air collectors directly into ground for subsequent extraction

The reservoir stores energy in the ground derived from solar energy, particularly for heating a building and supplying hot water. Collectors (2) for the solar energy are mounted in the open air, and from them a primary circuit transfers it (4) directly into the ground, where it is stored. From there a secondary circuit extracts it for subsequent use. The energy can be transferred, stored and extracted in the form of heat, extraction being progressive to give inter-seasonal storage. The primary system can incorporate a buried horizontal pipe (6) of considerable length.
