The hydraulic spring comprises a jack (1, 2) which discharges into an hydraulic accumulator (4), being used to control the semi-automatic flap-door of e.g. a bulk container vehicle. The unit uses a sprung (15) pressure- regulating valve (13) and a non-return valve (10) to control the flows to and from the accumulator respectively. A loop (12, 19, 20) of the non-return valve circuit (9, 11) may incorporate the regulating valve (13), or the two valves (10, 13) may be parallel and may each communicate directly with the jack chamber (3). The calibration of the spring (15) may be adjusted by a screw (17).
