Electric arc appts. for surfacing elongated stock comprises a series of electrodes arranged along the axis of the stock and electric power sources connected to the electrodes and the stock. A stock cooling device is disposed between the electrodes. Used for cleaning welding wire stock. Defective layers can be removed from the stock metal surface as well as scale and lubricant. The stock may also be refined. Environmental pollution is eliminated.
