Automatic voltage limiter for converter type power supply - uses hysteresis type comparator to operate interrupter between converter and output filter

The limiter for a high power convertor circuit transforms ac power to dc power for computer power supplies, and has a regulator (MR) coupled to the alternating supply. A filter (F) has one input coupled to the regulator (MR) output, and an energy storage (S) coupled through a filter circuit (F) to the regulated output. A hysteresis type comparator (CC) has an input coupled to the storage (S) and another input coupled to a reference voltage (VR). The error signal output by the comparator (CC) is supplied to the regulator (MR). The regulator has an interrupter (MI) to stop energy transfer between the regulator (MR) and the filter (F) when the output voltage exceeds the reference voltage.
