The device includes a valve body with an inlet and an outlet and a needle valve with a threaded region running in an internal thread in the pump body. The needle moves in a seat to vary the flow of fluid past the needle. The end of the needle opposite the seat is externally accessible. The needle valve is positioned by an electric motor with a reduction geared output flexibly coupled to the needle carrier which runs along the threaded interior of the body when the motor is energised, thus displacing the needle longitudinally. The flexible coupling corrects all the alignment errors which could exist between the various components, and permits a complete inter-exchange between the motor assembly and the valves.
