Temp. regulated electric cooking plate - uses bimetallic strip mounted under non-heated zone of cooking plate to switch fraction of power supplied to plate

The plate (11) has a median zone (18) which is not heated and a temp. controller operated by a bimetallic strip (20) which reduces the power supplied to the cooking plate to regulate the temp. The bimetal strip (20) is placed under a metal protective cap (25) covering the underside of the median zone (18) of the cooking plate. The protective cap is screw (31) fixed to a hole provided in the centre of the underside of the plate. The supply lead for the bimetal passes through an insulated grommet (28) passing through the wall of the protective cap. The electrical circuit is such that the bimetal strip switches a fraction of the total power supply to the cooking plate, the fraction being chosen to minimise the bimetal switching frequency.
