摘要

The disc brake pads have backing plates which extend outward beyond the friction material in order to provide increased cooling of the pad. These have provision for an electrical contact in the extended backing plate to signal the need to replace the pad when it has worn down to its minimum thickness. The brake pads (11) are fitted inside a caliper (10), over a brake disc (12), with one pad fixed (11A) and the other (11B) acted on by a hydraulically operated piston (15). The metal backing plates (20) which carry the friction material (16) extend beyond the disc periphery into the space under the caliper. The backing plates are bent inwards in this region, and an electrical contact (27) is passed through an insulating bushing in the fixed pad backing plate, to make contact with the other backing plate when the friction material is worn.
