Underwater core sampler for loose superficial sediments - has scissor action arms with shear plates closing core after sampling

The core tube (1) is open at the lower end, is suspended on a support cable, and forces itself into the sediment under gravity. Two articulating arms (14a,14b) have shear plates (17a,17b) at their ends and have a first spaced position allowing core driving, and a second closed position closing the core bottom before core extraction. The arms are ballasted (15a,15b) to aid the main maintenance of the first spaced position. The core head (2) is ballasted to assist the forcing of the core into the sediment, and it is shaped to rest on the water bottom during sampling.
