Reel-type weft accumulator for shuttleless loom - having spur-wheel weft-retaining device with simplified drive mechanism

Weft accumulator for a shuttleless loom comprises a fixed reel on which a specific number of turns of weft yarn are wound by a rotating flyer. The turns are retained on the reel by one of a number of spurs on a slowly-rotating spur wheel which is driven by a worm and wheel from the shaft carrying the flyer. Rotation of the spur wheel eventually withdraws the retaining spur behind one of the yarn supports as the succeeding spur enters the working zone, thereby enabling the turns deposited between the two spurs to be withdrawn rapidly during the weft-insertion process. The radius of the reel can be altered to vary the length of yarn accumulated in a given number of turns. Simple mechanism enables the accumulated length to be varied without difficulty and without introducing eccentricity of the reel.
