The sailing boat has a sail spread on a spar pivoted to the main mast. The spar can be placed to adjust the sail in a plane perpendicular to the hull longitudinal plane. The resulting aerodynamic forces pass through the hull, or near it. The sail plane is held in shape by a rigid triangular or square frame, or by spars in compression placed inside the sail shape.
