The sleeving machine includes a mechanism (4) advancing the sleeve (1) from a supply (2), and a similar mechanism (9) advancing the cable(s) (6) from other supply reels. The assembly unit (5) includes a series of parallel tubes (53) into which these are fed, the tubes being supported on radial arms (54) extending from a central shaft (55). Each tube includes a fixed part, rigidly attached to the end of the appropriate radial shafts, and a moving hinged part. The hinged part of each tube is arranged to open under gravity to discharge its sleeve automatically at a specified point. The hinged part otherwise remains closed.
