Latex comprises an aq. dispersion of particles comprising an acrylic ester polymer core surrounded by a vinyl aromatic polymer. The particles are at a concn. less than 60 wt.%, have a density of 1.07-1.2, a homogeneous dia. of 0.1-2 microns, have irregular profiles and comprise 50-95 wt.% of a spherical core of (1-4C)alkyl (meth)acrylate homo- or co-polymer and 5-50% of peripheral particles of the vinyl aromatic polymer bonded to the core. Pref. the core has a density of 1.1-1.2. The latex is claimed for the fixation of proteins and the prepn. of diagnostic reactants (I), e.g. the latter are prepd. by fixation, on the latex polymer, of antigenes or antibodies which can react specifically with an antagonistic antigen or antibody.
