Catalysts for the (co)polymsn. of ethylene comprises a support based on MgCl2 and opt. AlCl3, of spherical shape, having an average granulometry of 10-100 microns, a narrow distribution, a smooth surface, a density of 1.6-2.2 and contg. a small amt. of cpds. having Mg-C bond and opt. cpds. having Al-C bond. A Gp. IV, V or VI transition metal deriv. is pptd. on the support, the metal deriv. being a catalyst for the polymsn. of ethylene. Pref. is a Ti deriv. The catalyst is partic. suitable for polymerising ethylene in suspension or in fluidised bed.
