The monitor comprises a pulse generator driving two opposed windings surrounding the moving material to induce localised magnetic saturation of opposite polarity. The residual axial symmetry field is sensed by a coil connected to the measuring circuit which includes a controlled switch and an integrator in addition to the signal zero crossing readout comparator. Further improvement in the accuracy is due to the connection of the integrator to a controller of an additional comparator while the other output of the controller is linked to the current generator. The monitor is not affected by shifts due to vibrations.
