This improvement relates to a process for electrolytic deposition of a hard metal in the bore of a metal component, for example in a cylinder of a combustion engine. According to this process the component to be treated is arranged so that its bore surrounds an anode immersed in an electrolyte bath, with provision of an annular gap, and the said component is employed as cathode. According to the improvement, a tubular mask 9 made of electrically nonconductive material and whose wall has openings facing the regions of the bore 6a which it is desired to metallise is arranged in the annular gap 7 provided between the anode 5 and the bore 6a of the component 6 to be treated and with provision of a slight clearance in relation to this bore.
