Cleaning binder-less vacuum mould foundry installation - on vacuum interruption, using suction tubes connected to vacuum pumps of the installation

A foundry installation employing binderless vacuum sand moulds is cleaned using suction tubes which are positioned above or within a sand mass to be removed and which are connected into the piping system used for depressurising the moulds, after disconnection of the respective vacuum pump from the mould(s) from which the sand has collapsed. A sand separator is interposed between the suction tubes and the vacuum pumps. The suction tubes are esp. useful for removing sand from the installation when an interruption or breakdown occurs in the connection between vacuum pumps and large, vertical, split sand moulds of the type described in FR2134550. Large amts. of sand can be removed rapidly from the installation using the power of the existing vacuum pumps in the installation and the vacuum pumps are protected against entry of the sand.
