An apparatus for measuring cross-sectional dimensions of a hollow cylindrical workpiece (1) has a rotatably driven mandrel (2) upon which the workpiece is rotatably driven, a pair of guide rollers (3) located above the horizontal plane (7) of the workpiece and arranged to contact the outer periphery of the workpiece such that the longitudinal axes (3') of the guide rollers (3) are symmetrically disposed on each side of a mid-perpendicular extending therebetween to the longitudinal axis of the workpiece. A pair of diametrically opposed measuring devices (4, 5) in contact with the outer periphery of the workpiece are arranged on the mid-perpendicular and are connected to a computer (6). In dependence upon the measurements made by the devices (4, 5) and the known diameter of the mandrel (2) so the required dimensions of the workpiece can be evaluated by the computer. IMAGE
