GELLING AGENT COMPOSITION FOR WASTE FRYING OIL

PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which can effectively capture waste frying oil by causing the waste oil to gel when added to an emulsion of the waste oil, by blending a water-soluble alginate, a polyvalent metallic compd. and an emulsifier. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. water-soluble alginate such as sodium alginate powder having a fine particle size, 2-200pts.wt. polyvalent metallic compd. such as calcium citrate and 0.5-300pts.wt. emulsifier such as polyoxyethylene alkylphenol ether or sodium oleate are blended together. 0.5-20pts. said compsn. is added to 100pts. emulsion contg. waste frying oil and water in a weight ratio of 8/2-1/9. The mixture is stirred and then left to stand for several tens of minutes to one night, whereby the waste oil is readily converted into a gel which can be discarded.
