摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain the finely granulated titled compound, useful as an oxidation inhibitor of polyolefin, by the reaction of an ester of propionic acid and pentaerythritol in the presence of a specific compound, followed by addition of an alcohol and recrystallization. CONSTITUTION:3-(3,5-Di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid ester of formula I (R1 is alkyl) and pentaerythritol are subjected to ester exchange in the presence of a compound of formula II (R2 and R3 are 1-6C alkyl), and then an alcohol capable of forming a molecular addition compound with the objective compound, preferably a C3 or C4 alcohol, is added to form the addition compound. The compound obtained is recrystallized with methanol or/and ethanol to afford the colorless, finely granulated objective compound of formula III having excellent fluidity and high bulk density. This compound exhibits a sharp X-ray diffraction peak at the diffraction angle of 2theta=10.90 deg. by the X-ray diffraction analysis using Cu-Kalpha X-ray. The crystal structure of the compound is new.
