WASHING-OFF OF SULFUR DEPOSIT IN DESULFURIZER FOR COKE OVEN GAS

PURPOSE:To remove plugging deposits readily and economically in a short time, washing a desulfrizer for coke oven gas with a soln. which contains 70% or higher tar acid. CONSTITUTION:In a desulfurizing tower 1 which removes hydrogen sulfide contained in coke oven gas by bringing the gas into contact with a counter flow of an alkaline absorbing soln., a viscous mixt. of sulfur and oil is deposited in a filling layer 2 leading to clogging of the tower 1. When such clogging has occurred, supply of the absorbing soln. is stopped and a soln. which contains 75% (pref. 85%) or higher tar acid is introduced into the tower 1 at the top for dissolution of the deposits in the filling layer and the soln. is sent into a tank 4. The tar acid soln. is cycled for reuse through a pump 5 and a line 6. Upon completion of cleaning, the tar acid soln, is extracted from the tank 4 through a line 7 for recovery of tar acid and utilization of residues as pitch modifier, etc.
