PURPOSE:To be suited to unmanned machining by obtaining a quantity of offset between the coodinate value and the set value of the machining reference position of a new workpiece to be machined, which is based on the measuring program read out each time a workpiece is replaced, and correcting said set value. CONSTITUTION:Each time a workpiece 16 to be machined, which is more than one in number, is replaced, a measuring program MPR stored in a memory is read, and a coordinate Z1X of the machining reference position, in the direction of the Z axis, of a workpiece 16 to be newly machined, is measured by a contact position detecting means, based on the program MPR. Then, a quantity of offset OFS of the Z axis of the machining reference position of the workpiece 16 with respect to the machining reference position in a machining program PRO, is obtained from the coordinate Z1X and a coordinate Z1 set in the machining program PRO, and the machining reference position in the machining program PRO is corrected so as to agree with the actual machining reference position, through the quantity of offset OFS, to carry out machining based on the corrected value. Accordingly, it is not necessary to measure the quantity of offset each time a workpiece is replaced, enabling a unit to be suited to unmanned machining.
