METHOD FOR RECOVERING VALUABLE METAL FROM COPPER SLAG

PURPOSE:To recover the valuable metals such as copper in molten slag at a high yield by supplying the slag produced from refining of copper in the molten state to an electrolytic furnace and subjecting the slag to heating by DC and electrolytic treatment. CONSTITUTION:Valuable metals of not only Cu but also Ag, etc. are suspended and incorporated in the fine granular metallic state and exist also in the form of compd. in the self-fluxing furnace slag or converter slag generated in the stage of refining Cu. Such molten slag is supplied into an electrolytic treating furnace B with a molten salt having a carbon hearth 4 as cathode and a Soderberg type carbon electrode 3 as anode. The molten slag is continuously fluidized in the direction from the left to the right shown in the figure while electricity is conducted between the electrode 3 and the hearth 4. The suspended metallic pole in the molten slag is settled by the own weight onto the hearth 4 by the decrease in the viscosity of the molten slag by heating. The valuable metal in the form of the compd. flows near the electrode 3 on account of the presence of a baffle plate 5 in the furnace and deposits on the hearth as the cathode by receiving substantially the electrolytic effect. The metal is thus recovered.
