PURPOSE:To have supercharging throughout the operating range by varying the passage length of a supercharging rotor of a complex supercharger. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas of the engine is fed in a hole 17 of a complex supercharger 17, and further into a rotor cell 9 of a rotor 54 driven by the engine so as to compress the suction gas on the opposite side within the cell 9, and thus a supercharging air is supplied to the engine through a hole 18. The exhaust gas which has compressed the suction gas is pushed back by the boosted pressure and exhausted from a hole 17b by rotation of the cell 9. At the same time suction gas is inhaled into the cell 9 through a hole 18a. In accordance with the engine operating condition a control unit 15 emits a certain output to drive an actuator 23, which shall put a working element 51 in operation to vary the length of the cell 9. Thus complex supercharging can be made throughout the operating range of the engine by, for ex., shortening the cell 9 in response to the increase of the number of engine revolutions.
