PURPOSE:To enable copy grinding of a work in conformity to the profile of a cam, by operably mounting a copying wheel on a grinding wheel spindle, which is provided with a peripheral surface tapered at the same angle as the taper on the peripheral surface of the cam mounted on a bell chuck shaft, for rotation on and sliding along the grinding wheel spindle thereby allowing the grinding wheel always to make an accurate motion to follow the cam and grind the work conforming to the profile of the cam. CONSTITUTION:A copying wheel 10 in contact with a cam 6 fixed on a bell chuck shaft 4 acts as a cam follower relative to the cam 6, and moves up and down corresponding to the profile of the cam 6, whereby a diamond wheel 8, which is fixed to a spindle 7 which rotatably supports the copying wheel 10 via a bearing 11 and a spindle 9, moves up and down and grinds a work 1, chucked by the chucks 2, 3 on the bell chuck shafts 4, 5, copying the profile of the cam 6. When the diamond wheel 8 has worn off, the copying wheel 10 is slightly shifted to the right relative to the spindle 9 so that the contact portion of the cam 6 with the copying wheel 10 is shifted to the side of a smaller diameter portion of the copying wheel 10. Thus, the diamond wheel 8 is brought closer to the work 1 and an adjustment for the worn off smaller diamter of the diamond wheel 10 can be made. Therefore, the work 1 can always be ground in conformity to the profile of the cam 6.
