PURPOSE:To improve productivity and to reduce cost by forming the front ends which have a recess and a projecting shape fitting thereto and face each other at a specific length and angle of inclination to the ends of preceding and succeeding billets then combining the front ends with each other and subjecting the billets to rolling and press-welding. CONSTITUTION:The rear end of the preceding billet 1 and the front end of the succeeding billet 2 are cut and formed to the recessed and projecting shapes fitting to each other. The projecting shape and recessed shape at the front and rear ends of the billets 1, 2 are fitted to each other and while the billets are held by guide rolls 9, the billets are fed to rolling rolls 8 by the pushing force acted thereon by pinch rolls, etc. from behind the billet 2. Since a flux is preliminarily coated on the joint surfaces 4, oxide scale is removed and the active joint surfaces are press-welded by the rolling reduction of the rolls 8, by which the billets 1, 2 are thoroughly joined.
