PURPOSE:To obtain a stainless steel wire rod which is stably formed into a hyperfine stainless steel wire of =30mum diameter unlike a conventional wire rod by regulating the amounts of Al and O to specified very low values and the diameter of inclusions to a specified value. CONSTITUTION:The amounts of Al and O contained in a material for a Cr or Ni-Cr stainless steel wire rod are regulated to =0.006wt% Al and =10ppm O, and the diameter of inclusions is regulated to 10mum to obtain a stainless steel wire rod for a hyperfine wire. This wire rod can be drawn stably and continuously to =40mum, especially =30mum diameter without causing breaking. It is desirable that the amount of sol. Al is regulated to =0.005wt%. The amount of Al2O3 type inclusion with low plastic deformability can be reduced.
