DETECTION OF MOVING SPEED OF MOLTEN WITH ELECTROSTATIC STIRRING OF UNSOLIDIFIED MOLTEN STEEL OF CONTINUOUS CASTING BILLET

PURPOSE:To detect the moving speed of an unsolidified molten steel of a continuous casting billet by acting a moving magnetic field to said steel, moving the molten steel by the induced electric power of the billet and knowing the power source frequency of an induction device for electromagnetic stirring and the induced electric power of the billet. CONSTITUTION:A linear motor type moving magnetic field 4 is applied to a billet 1 from the outside of billet support rolls 3. Induced electric power 10 is generated in the billet 1 by a magnetic field 8 and moving force of an arrow 9' is applied to the molten steel 2 of the billet by the power 10. The moving speed V of the molten steel is expressed by V=K0(f0-f) where the power source frequency of an electromagnetic stirrer 4 is designated as f0, the frequency of the induced electric power of the billet 1 as f and the constant K0. Since K0 and f0 are known, the moving speed V of the molten steel is detected by detecting (f) by a contactor 5 on the opposite side of the billet.
