PURPOSE:To mirror finish aluminum and aluminum alloy with finish accuracy better than 0.05mumRmax by pressing a polish member of specific grain size against the face to be worked with specific force. CONSTITUTION:A polishing member 5 is pressed against both faces of rotating work 1 then working liquid 7 is fed through the feed path 6 and polishing member 5 to the surface of work 1 thereafter the polishing member 5 and holder 3 are moved unilaterally in perpendicular direction with the rotary shaft of jig 2 of work 1 thus to mirror finish the work 1 made of aluminum or aluminum alloy. Here, the grain size of polishing member 5 is made to be #1500-#8000 while the pressing force is 0.1-2kgf/cm2 and the surface finish accuracy is better than 0.05mumRmax.
