PURPOSE:To detect a torsional load accurately by engaging a compression rod with a thrust bearing between a movable crosshead and a base, and eliminating the influence of the reaction of a tensile load upon the detected value of a load cell. CONSTITUTION:The compression rod 23 is engaged with the thrust bearing 24 between the movable crosshead 2 and base 8. When a tensile torsion test is taken, the compression rod 23 is applied with a compression load, so a gripper 4R receive the reaction of the compression load in addition to the test torsional load. Since the compression rod 23 is arranged between the movable crosshead 2 and base 8, its compression load operates on the gripper 4R in the same direction with the tensile load upon a test-piece. Therefor, the gripper 4R receive the reaction correspond to the reaction of the tensile load upon the test piece. Therefore, the load cell 17 is verified accurately, and the torsional load is detected accurately.
