POLYPHENYLENE SULFIDE COMPOSITE MATERIAL REINFORCED WITH CARBON FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:Polyphenylene sulfide containing carbon fibers are heat treated under specific conditions, thus producing title composition with large packing density of carbon fibers and high mechanical properties, heat and chemical resistance. CONSTITUTION:The carbon fibers which have more than 0.5, preferably more than 1 inch fiber length and are regularly arranged are impregnated with a molten and uncrosslinked polyphenylene sulfide at 300-360 deg.C. Then, the polyphenylene sulfide is crosslinked under the conditions given in equations I and II (T is the temperature heated; t is the time in hr), thus giving the objective composite material containing more than 30, preferably 35-80wt% of carbon fibers.
