PURPOSE:To solve the problems of gap between the supply and demand of petroleum products and the condition of a location for a reduced iron plant by decomposing thermally a heavy oil with iron ore powder as a fluid medium, sticking by-produced coke on the iron ore powder and subjecting the iron ore to fluidized reduction. CONSTITUTION:The heavy oil from a pipeline 16 is catalytically decomposed by steam in a thermal decompositon column 1 and the resulted product is rectified in a rectifying section 5. The iron ore from a pipeline 32 is fluidized by steam in a heating column 2 and is heated with high-temp. combustion gas. The heated iron ore is conducted with a cross pipe 10 to the column 1, into which the decomposition heat of the heavy oil is supplied. On the other hand, the coke by-produced by the decomposition sticking on the ore surface and the ore is conducted through a cross pipe 11 into the column 1 where the ore is reheated. The coke-stuck ore in the column 1 is conducted to a gasifying furnace 3 where the ore is brought into reaction with O2 and steam to form reducing gas (H2+Co) and at the same time the ore is heated. The coke-stuck ore which is adjusted in the amt. of the coke and is heated is conducted into a reducing furnace 4. The ore is discharged as reduced iron therefrom and is formed into reduced briquettes 9.
